Spirit Week 4.5

It's closing time Spirit Week enthusiasts. Sadly, we're to the final day of this edition. ADNW hopes it has been at least as much fun for you as us. Go forth and have spirit.

FRIDAY

DAY 5 - "Little Known Fact Friday" – If you know a little known fact, that’s swell, but unnecessary. 5-points each time you tag a “little known fact” on any conversational topic. In other words, be Cliff Claven today. (5-point bonus if you get someone to believe a load of crap.)

THURSDAY

DAY 4 - "Super-Enthusiast Thursday" – Earn 5 points for triggering discomfort via manic enthusiasm. If asked, “How are you?” The correct answer is a wild-eyed, “Super-fantastic!” How was your lunch? - “The best I’ve EVER tasted!” (5-point bonus if someone openly questions your sanity.)

WEDNESDAY

Day 3 - Nostradamus (or Psychic non sequitur) Wednesday – Earn 5 points for randomly spouting a cryptic phrase that could be interpreted as a psychic declaration. Wide eyes, ominous tone, and dramatic gesticulation must accompany your phrase. (5-point bonus if someone openly questions your sanity.)

Examples: Attend to durable emotions! When the moon spikes, stand aloof! Fly in the face of competition! Don’t drink the ice! Spilt milk is twice removed! Don’t lend pennies to a spiked loon! Stiffen your lip amid lethargy! Revisit old deliveries! Fortune is in the interim!

Welcome to "Talk for me Tuesday" 5-points each time you speak for someone, or have someone speak for you. Your mission is to awkwardly steal conversation via interruption or collaboration. Recommended phrases include – “I’ll take that one,” “Well ____ thinks / says / believes,” “Allow me,” “I know what ____ is going to say,” or “____ will handle that.” Sorry introverts and shut-ins, this will require some social interaction. (5-point bonus if you’re asked to stop.)

Welcome to - "Like Yoda, you speak Monday" – Yoda phrasing earns 5 points each occurrence - spot on impressions encouraged, but not mandatory. If you need further explanation, you don’t get to play, you communist, Martian troll. Just report immediately to your neighborhood Star Wars fan for a flogging. (5-point bonus if someone asks you to stop.)

Spirit Week 3

Monday

Movie Quote Monday – 10 points for each usage of a movie quote that fits into conversation. No points awarded if the quote stands alone or has no relevance to the conversation.

Tuesday

Rickey Henderson Tuesday - 10 points for each instance of talking about yourself in the 3rd person, subject/verb disagreement, omission of possessive pronouns, omission of pronouns, and omission of S’s. Listen to Henderson's Hall of Fame acceptance speech for an example and keep in mind the guy had public speaking lessons prior to the speech. (Yes, you can earn multiple points in 1 sentence/e-mail).

Wednesday

Talk Like The Kids Text Wednesday - 10 pts for using LOL, ROTFL, AFK, OIC, OMG, etc in regular conversation. 5 bonus points if you actually pronounce these as words, rather than as acronyms.

Thursday

Song and Dance Thursday - 10 pts for each time you spontaneously break into your favorite song or dance during conversation.

Friday

Foreign Phrase Friday – 10 points for each usage of a foreign phrase within the context of a conversation.

As usual, double the points for all the above while being observed by a supervisor or client.

Greetings once again, loyal ADNW readers. We're to the final day of Spirit Week 2. Thanks for your rapt attention and generous participation. Let's bring it home strong on the final day!

Welcome to COIN A PHRASE FRIDAY! 10 points for each usage of a preferably original (and hopefully annoying) catchphrase. 10-point bonus if someone else repeats your catchphrase within the day. 5-point bonus if someone openly finds your catchphrase annoying.

In case you're imagination fails you, I am going to provide some examples. Steal them or adapt them as you like. The priority is to get in the game.

Non-original – Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. That’ll play. Don’t spend it all in one place. Babies having babies.

Original-ish – Shut that down. Fix that! You’re on the freedom trail now, baby. You can smack dat up. Here’s your free delivery. Taste that funk. Load me up. I’d buy that product.

Welcome to “That’s What She Said” Thursday. (Thanks Andy H for the suggestion). Yes, Office fans, it’s time to let it fly. 10 points for each usage of this tag on joke. 10-point bonus each time you‘re asked to shut up because you’re getting on someone’s nerves. In case you're not familiar, just add the phrase, "that's what she said" after any sentence uttered by another person, particularly those that might make it sound a bit naughty.

Next up is Obfuscatory Verbiage Wednesday! 10 points for each correct usage of an obscure term when something much simpler / listener friendly will work. 5-point bonus for each time you are asked to repeat yourself or define the term. Favorite examples – defenestrate, coprophagus, paradigm. If you don’t already have your own favorites, I recommend hitting google.

Spirit Week 1

How are we going to do the perfect cheer when your bow is all messed up?

INTRO
ADNW would like to welcome you to a new segment - Spirit Week! We’re going to take you back to the good old days of drumming up enthusiasm for homecoming (or similar occasion) with pep rallies, decorated lockers, and dress up. However, we’re going to spice it up a bit by awarding points for participation. So, get your scorecards ready. Winner not only gets the pride in victory, but you also win a free tour of your own home. Best of luck contestants.

SBD Monday
(SBD = Silent But Deadly) You get 10 points for clandestinely clearing a room. Double your points for getting caught.

Indoor Shades Tuesday
10 points for each occasion. 10 bonus points when laughed at.

Poor conversational skills Wednesday
10 points for every time you:
a- Awkwardly walk out mid-conversation
b- Awkwardly insert yourself into a conversation
c- Dominate a conversation
d- Interrupt
e- Ramble incoherently

Third Person Thursday
10 points each time you publicly speak of yourself in the 3rd person. 10-point bonus if it's in front of a boss/client.

Inane Nickname Friday
10 points for assigning inane nicknames to coworkers, clients, and supervisors. Double your points if you get someone else to repeat it.
